In Offshore Renewables we focus on turbine manufacturers and operators as well as on developers and asset owners. Our clients in the Maritime Industry include innovative shipyards focused on clean propulsion solutions and major ship design offices focused on high tech vessels. Common to all markets and clients we serve is our clear commitment to clean energy at sea, which is facilitated by our network of Norwegian and German engineers and mariners.

Thus, KONGSTEIN combines Norwegian innovative culture and marine competence with the German focus on details and efficiency, and provides quality services and smart, innovative solutions. Its partners have accumulated many decades of hands-on experience in major projects within the offshore energy and maritime industry and have access to a pool of highly qualified specialists world-wide. Unrivalled practical experience e.g. in the management of challenging projects such as alpha ventus, DanTysk, Helwin Alpha, Borwin Beta and Johan Sverdrup, warrant a solid approach to designing and de-risking offshore projects.

Who we are:


Chairman of the Board.

Thorsten, one of KONGSTEIN’s founding members earnt a MBA degree from Indiana University, USA and was a former partner of the Boston Consulting Group where he primarly served wholesale banks and maritime companies. He took over a managerial and ownership position in a ship owning and marine logistics company specialized in offshore and port operations. Thorsten holds several board member seats within the offshore industry.


Partner and Managing Director.

Rune is a Norwegian mechanical engineer with experience gained in shipyards acting as MD, and in international sales & marketing and project management. He has worked on advanced chemical tankers, DP2 vessels, drillships, and is a designer and implementer of subsea equipment. Furthermore, he is inspector and survey manager on behalf of class societies, flag states and P&I clubs.

Thorbjørn Hansen

Partner and Managing Director.

Thorbjørn is a Norwegian engineer, Dept. of Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering. He has the expertise for advanced chemical tankers, DP2 vessels, drillships, and is also a designer and implementer of subsea equipment. He is coordinator of topside offshore structures and jack-up rigs and was the pre-piling installation manager at alpha ventus and on HLV Thialf.

Dr. Peter


As an engineer by training, Peter made his management career in Shell, having served in various leading positions for many years before taking over the Chairmanship of the Management of Deutsche Shell from 2008 to end of 2015. He too is a founding partner of KONGSTEIN. Peter holds board member seats in the consulting and energy industries.



Lars is a senior business development and innovation manager in the maritime and offshore renewables market. With his background in business administration, maritime logistics and industry project management, he has accrued over 15 years of experience in senior positions in the maritime and energy sector.


Country Manager.

Erik is a fully trained business economist who started his career in the Corporate Development/ M&A department of a major utility and leading offshore wind farm developer and operator. Working for Vattenfall, Erik gained more than eight years of experience in leading positions within technical project management and specialist team development for offshore logistics and maritime operations.

Dr.-Ing Steffen Knodt

Associate Director Technology Management.

Steffen is specialist for production technologies. He headed the Innovation and strategic R&D department for Maersk Maritime Technology and contributes in various mining technology projects. Furthermore, he is a founding partner of the Heavy Duty Power Train Cluster at the RWTH Campus.

Dr. Ivan Ostvik

Associate Director Business Development.

Ivan has a B.Eng in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering and holds a PhD degree. He has worked with the development of low-emission and energy-efficient bulk ships as project manager for Misje Shipping and with the development of hybrid battery-hydrogen fueled car ferries. Ivan holds also an Associate Professor position at University of Bergen in maritime energy at the Geophysical Institute.
